Drivers: Be cautious- School starts Tuesday, August 15

The Altus Police Department would like to remind citizens that Tuesday, August 15, is the first day of classes for Altus Public Schools. During these summer months motorists have been traveling through our many school zones at the posted speed limits. Beginning August 15, those posted speed limits will change during school hours.

On school days, please observe all posted speed limits and other traffic signs between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Always remember to stop for school buses that are loading and unloading our children and watch for them as they cross the street. Altus police officers will be patrolling these school zones.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy states, “I’m certain our children will be excited to begin another school year, so let’s look out for them because they may not be looking out for you. The Altus Police Department wants everyone to have a safe and happy school year!”

For more information, contact the Altus Police Department at (580) 482-4121.
